They are diet aids to help you lose weight. They will help you lose weight by allowing you to eat less without feeling hungry.

When do I take Appetite Suppressants?

Since the majority of people have the most difficult time with eating later in the day we would like you to take your medication at time intervals that maximize their benefits to you.

Can I take Appetite Suppressants sporadically or only when I think it necessary?

No. Recent research has proven that patients who took the medication as prescribed everyday did much better than those who took them only on holidays and/or when they felt like they needed them.

Can I eat anything I want with Appetite Suppressants and still lose weight?

No, of course not. There is no magic pill, and you should be wary of any diet supplement that claims otherwise. Your body weight is a function of what you eat and what you burn through your body's metabolism. Appetite Suppressants can help you lose weight by learning to control your food portions, reducing your food and caloric intake without making you feel hungry, and increasing your fat burning capacity by increasing your metabolism.

Are there any medications that cannot be used simultaneously with hunger-suppressing medications?

Appetite Suppressants should NOT be used with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (usually prescribed for depression).

It is also advisable to limit the use of Appetite Suppressants if you are using decongestants such as Sudafed, Actifed or anything containing phenylpropanolamine. Also remember, if you eat sweets (sugars) in even moderate amounts (like a piece of candy) the effect of appetite suppressants will be diminished. If your personal physician prescribes any medication for an acute illness, please inform him/her that you are taking appetite suppressants.

Are there any medical conditions that prevent the use of Appetite Suppressants?

Yes, glaucoma, a disease of the eyes that is diagnosed by your ophthalmologist. However, when the disease is under control, you can use these medicines with your ophthalmologist's approval. IN ADDITION, YOU MUST DISCONTINUE THE USE OF APPETITE SUPPRESSANTS TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO ANY GENERAL ANESTHETIC.

For how long can I take Appetite Suppressants?

Recent research has proven that patients can safely take Appetite Suppressants until their desired level of weight has been achieved. Some patients continue the medication at a reduced dosage, for a long time during maintenance if necessary. You cannot continue with the medication if weight is gained while taking it. However, after a three-month period, the medication may be resumed.

What other restrictions are there with Appetite Suppressants?

Since these are prescription/controlled medications, physicians must follow federal and state guidelines when treating patients. We must follow a research proven protocol when using these medications. For example; we begin at a minimum dosage (which most people find adequate throughout their program) and can increase to a certain point but not higher. If you have taken Appetite Suppressants in higher dosages in the past, you must begin with the minimum dose. We can dispense or prescribe a maximum of one-month supply at a time.

If I stop coming to the program, do I need to repeat all of the testing to restart?

Your initial testing and visit establish you as a patient with our office for approximately 6 months. Therefore, for your safety and the effectiveness of the programs, if you discontinue your visits for more than 6 months, you will have to re-enroll and undergo all of the testing again.
